UVRI-IAVI HIV Vaccine Program works closely with different stakeholders both at national and grassroots level for effective involvement in HIV vaccine research and this department is at the heart of the above function
The program conducts laboratory tests and assays that measure the safety of HIV vaccines in clinical trials specifically biochemistry, hematology, CD4/CD8 and HIV tests. It also conducts assays to measure the immunogenicity of HIV vaccines in clinical trials, specifically Elispot and intracellular cytokine assays
The role of UVRI-IAVI is to conduct HIV prevention trials, basic sciences and epidemiological research in HIV, TB, Malaria and other related diseases and to support IAVI-sponsored activities in Ugandanment of Uganda and IAVI’s partnership responsibilities within the fight against HIV.
