Primary role
The UVRI-IAVI HIV Vaccine program is dedicated to being a leader in vaccine research and development against HIV and other infectious diseases, with an aim of contributing knowledge towards the elimination of the effects caused by these infections. Although the program endeavours to recruit highly trained and qualified human resources, it also promotes continuous development of both staff, stakeholders like Community Advisory Board members and other trainees.
The UVRI-IAVI program also believes in, and encourages the transfer of practical knowledge and skills to young graduates, and undergraduate students, through its internship program.
The framework that guides human resource development at the UVRI-IAVI program, is the Training Policy. The Program has a Training policy whose objectives are:-
- To ensure that the UVRI-IAVI Program staff are continuously refreshed with up-to-date knowledge and practical skills so that they are professional, competent and efficient in execution of their roles and responsibilities.
- To provide opportunities for the UVRI-IAVI Program to share its knowledge, research experiences and capabilities with other scientists all over the world.
- To train the next generation scientists by imparting knowledge and practical skills to students at all levels of training through student internships, research placements for graduate training and refresher training opportunities.
- To facilitate knowledge transfer from other research scientists/organizations to UVRI-IAVI Program staff aimed at expanding our institutional research capabilities.
Forms of training at the UVRI-IAVI Program
